150 mile range, Zero emissions, Vertical take Off and Landing, one pilot and four passengers, just a few key features of the new VTOL Air Taxi from Jobi Aviation promising passenger transportation for UBER Technologies by 2023.
Jobi Aero is powered by six electric motors, the aircraft takes off and lands vertically, giving the flexibility to serve almost any community. Transform hours on the road into minutes in the sky by flying direct to your destination at up to 200mph.
The Santa Cruz, California-based company agreed to acquire the flying taxi company Elevate last month, and Uber has taken a stake in Joby as part of the deal. Joby is developing an air taxi that can be used by 2023 at the earliest, the company said.
Joby is the best-funded and most valuable of an explosion of startups leveraging advances in batteries and electric motors to try to wean aviation off fossil fuels and create new types of aircraft, including autonomous ones, to serve as air taxis.
Joby has raised more than $800 million in private funds and is valued at $2.6 billion, according to PitchBook, which tracks private fundraising. Joby's backers include Toyota Motor Corp and Intel Corp.
The JOBI AERO The UBER Air Taxi is evocative, to say the least, but that's why you're drawn to it in the first place.
