It is the world's first racing series for manned electric flying cars. With elite pilots race manned electric multicopters above some of the world’s most exotic locations, this sport is found at the confluence of frontier technology and new world entertainment.
In July the Duke of Richmond has formally opened the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed as well officially launching Airspeeder, by dropping the flag on the world’s first full-size quadcopter racing event.
The unveil was also an opportunity to formally introduce Alauda Racing – the Australian start-up behind Airspeeder and the globally broadcast series’ prestigious global title sponsor Equals, the money management solutions provider formerly known as FairFX. With the backing of Equals, and Official Logistics Partner DHL, Alauda Racing will use Airspeeder as a platform to develop highly-efficient and highly-effective ‘flying cars’ for commercial use.
Matt Pearson, founder and CEO of Airspeeder and the driving force behind the Airspeeder race series, said: “This was a very emotional moment for those of us who have been involved in this project from the start, everyone at Alauda Racing and our partners and sponsors. After huge amounts of hard work, research, technical development and planning this formal unveiling – at an event as iconic as Goodwood – feels it feel as though all our dreams have become reality and Airspeeder has properly arrived.”
The series will tour the world with Grand Prix events held at both iconic Motorsport venues and non traditional locations featuring unique and exotic racing backdrops, Initially, each Grand Prix will feature head-to-head racing between ten pilots competing for five teams.
Races will take place under rules similar to Formula E, so each race is likely to last around 30 minutes of flat-out action and include one pit-stop for a battery swap. The Mk. IV octocopters, or Speeders, that will eventually compete in the first Airspeeder Grand Prix, will begin manned demonstration flights in the Mojave Desert later this year. Each will hit speeds of 200km/h and offer a power-to-weight ratio superior to a fighter jet.
Developed by Alauda Racing, the Airspeeder concept has taken just four years to get off the ground as the innovative company seeks to make jump from technology driven start up to world-wide motorsport brand. With a team consisting of aerospace engineers, designers, pilots and entrepreneurs, they have a vison to change the direction of motorsport
Summing up our debut at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Pearson said: “This is just the start of our reach for the skies. Our vision sees not just the development of a unique sporting spectacle but also the start of a new industry, with flying cars built for competition providing an ideal environment for innovation and technical evolution. Just watch this space.”
The world no longer demands what traditional motorsport delivers. The future of transport is flight. Airspeeder takes what is dreamed in E-Sports and makes it reality. Airspeeder is sport for the next generation.
A 21st century sport designed to deliver product that will inspire and excite the next generation.
Two kinds of racers are currently in works The Unmanned MK2 and the Manned MK4. These eVTOL speeders have been custom manufactured by Alauda Aeronautics Pty Ltd, built with performance and agility as their primary objective.
All Airspeeders are powered by an interchangeable 500kw battery. That’s equivalent to 80 wall sockets. Unlike transport or photography drones, Airspeeders have been purposely built to race, with a pilot in the vehicle. Built with a single seat cockpit, the Airspeeder is completely controlled from within the vehicle. Airspeeders are not only light, but also offer the same power to weight ratio as a fighter jet.
Nothing drives innovation faster than competition. Airspeeder will turbocharge eVTOL technology and safety innovation, enabling the next aviation revolution. Airspeeder is a completely electric racing series. It’s been designed as a 21st century sport should be. Keep an eye out for this new sport it will blow your mind!
The AIRSPEEDER World's First Electric Flying Cars Racing is evocative, to say the least, but that's why you're drawn to it in the first place.
