We live in a post-traditional world, and many of us are most interested in tools and clocks. Timers (you know, smartwatches) are largely not what we need, but what we want. So when a new clock comes out, which is literally a useful tool, our eyes are a little wide awake, like many others around us.
I would encourage brands to bring us a different kind of watch that focuses on the user experience, not just the technical aspects of the watch itself. There are many reasons for this, including the fact that it is a watch with a unique design, but this is just one of many.
The fact is that almost all divers today use modern dive computers to perform a variety of tasks, including measuring their diving time. In one context, there is someone who may actually want to strap it on his wrist and take it to sea. Since dive computer technology can fail, it is always a good idea to have a spare watch or, if necessary, a more traditional wristwatch.
For those of you who do not know Citizen, I would like to point out that it has a power reserve indicator on the dial. Although it is not a mechanical watch, it is not intended to indicate whether the energy stays in the spring or whether the charging time remains with the battery. This is a good thing, because if you don't have enough juice, you can always turn on the clock and move.
It also has an automatic helium valve, and Citizen prides itself on calling it a "true saturation factor." This feature is really useful and makes the package simply more professional due to its diving capability.
Professional divers who need things like time decompression chambers will appreciate this feature, of course, but most owners of these watches will probably never appreciate a watch capable of such performance. I don't care about size, I care about how it looks and feels clean on the wrist, and it's important that Citizen (and several other brands of course) continue to produce real watches for everyday use.
The Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Professional Diver 1000M Wrist Watch is evocative, to say the least, but that's why you're drawn to it in the first place.
