The i8 was never the most popular sportscar among petrolheads due to its heavy hybrid tech and far from exciting power figure. Now that the model is gone, rumours have started swirling around about its replacement and it’s fair to say that, if what’s being said proves to be true, it will set the market alight.
First of all, it seems we’ll have to wait a while for the as yet unnamed car. It’s said that the i8’s replacement will be unveiled sometime during 2023. That would surely mean that the BMW Vision M Next will go on sale in the first months of 2024. That’s over around five years after the original sportscar was discontinued last year.
According to the American site, it will feature styling heavily based on the BMW Vision M Next originally shown off in June of 2019. The concept revealed wedge-shaped styling similar to the M1 supercar from the late 1970’s and a very futuristic front end.
Under the retro-modern body will sit a hybrid powertrain capable of around 600hp. Just like the i8, the BMW Vision M Next will be made up of a turbocharged engine powering the rear axle with the help of an electric motor and a fully electric front axle. As yet, no information surrounding the format of the engine is available, though a four-cylinder seems the most likely option.
An estimated 60-mile all-electric range has been hinted at which would mean quite small batteries. Hopefully, this will make for a lighter, more responsive and sportier sportscar compared to its predecessor.
Supposedly, the price of the BMW Vision M Next will be around $160,000.
The BMW Vision M Next is far and away, one of our most popular items. People can't seem to get enough of it.
