The Stator scooter, which looks like if Batman's Bat Pod and a Razor scooter had a love child, is finally heading to market. The unique design with giant tires, single-sided wheels, and self-balancing nature (or perhaps more accurately described as “self-righting”) have proven popular with consumers.
As an avid skateboarder since childhood, Nathan Allen always loved the unencumbered feeling of freedom it gave him. Combining that with a passion for simple design and engineering, he co-founded Stator scooter to build an innovative vehicle that would offer that same feeling of freedom. He is also the director of industrial design at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California.
From there, the design caught the interest of businessman and investor Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong founder of NantMobility, who has helped prepare the Stator electric scooter for market.
With its distinctive design, the Stator electric scooter is certainly unique in the market. The handlebar is single-sided and houses a twist throttle, brake lever, horn button, LED battery indicator, on/off button, and a key lock.
All of the wiring is routed inside of the handlebar and stem, resulting in the clean outward appearance. The scooter is rated for a top speed of 30 mph (51 km/h) and comes with a 1 kWh battery. The company rates it for up to 80 miles (129 km) of range, but that’s a pipe dream unless you’re riding it at less than rental-scooter speed. For comparison, other scooters of similar power levels with 50% more battery capacity have realistic ranges of 50-60 miles (80-96 km).
Fully electric, the Stator scooter operates in relative silence, affording its rider the luxury of bypassing city gridlock in peace for more than an hour following a battery charge. This represents a substantial advance in micromobility, in stark contrast to the noisy, fossil-fuel burning scooters currently choking city roads and sidewalks across the country. Stator’s speed and ride comfort eclipse the jarring and slow ride that current small wheel scooters deliver.
Unlike low-quality, generic rental scooter options, the Stator scooter is built to last and is available for individual purchase. Each owner will know from the first ride why NantMobility is proud of the Stator and will share in that through pride of ownership. The 90 lb (41 kg) Stator scooter features a 50 inch (1.27 meter) wheel base and rides on 18 x 17.8 – 10 sized tires. And those fan blades you see designed into the wheels? Those are for helping to cool the motor.
The NantMobility team has dedicated itself to adding even more innovative features to the Stator’s design. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, the launch edition of the Stator scooter offers you an experience unlike anything seen before in micromobility, including: - Advanced, automotive OEM-grade instruments - Limp, Eco, Sport and X modes tailored to rider skill and environmental conditions - Award-worthy bladed wheels for optimal brake and motor cooling - Best-in-class visibility lighting - Durable and quiet military grade tire compounds and tread patterns that shrug off water - Capable of maintaining speeds of 30 miles per hour for one hour - Industry-first “fan blade” one-piece aluminum wheels designed as a heat sink while allowing air to flow over and cool the motor - Full recharge in four hours With one kilowatt hour of energy, the Stator scooter can travel for more than 80 miles.
A gasoline-powered car would travel less than a mile using the same amount of energy, and even an all-electric car would go barely more than four miles. This not only makes micromobility with the Stator scooter incredibly efficient, it also means less reliance on cars, which the Environmental Protection Agency notes are the largest contributor of U.S. greenhouse emissions. It’s a cool looking electric scooter, that’s for sure. And I love the idea of those giant tires. It's a bit pricey running at $3,995 , so we hope you’ve been saving up. Stator scooter begins taking pre-orders, you can order one now on Stator's website here.
The STATOR Fat Wheel Self Balancing Electric Scooter destined to impress, and priced at only $3,995.00 USD, for a limited time.
